The Ballinasloe Horse fair is taking place on Sunday 2nd Monday 3rd & Saturday 8th October 2016. The three days of horse sales will attract in excess of 85,000 visitors to Ballinasloe and is worth in an estimated €6 million to the local economy. The 177th Horse and Agricultural show due to take place in the Showgrounds on Saturday 1st October has being cancelled due to safety concerns for the members and visitors following on from a dispute between Galway County Council and sulky people regarding sulky flashing lane.

The Six All Irelands will now be held on Saturday 24th at 9 am in the Showgrounds. Likewise the Ballinasloe Fair & Festival committee had no choice but to cancel the prestigious lunging competitions that were scheduled to take place on Sunday 2nd & Monday 3rd on the Fair Green. Both committees were extremely disappointed that a workable solution could not have been reached with Galway County Council before the decision to reschedule the all-Ireland qualifiers and the lunging competitions was made.

Both committees have now refocused their efforts on finalising plans for their perspective events. The queen of the Fair selection night will now take place on Friday 23rd September in Gullane’s Hotel. The Six All Ireland Finals will take place in the Show grounds on Saturday 24th September. The Annual Horse Fair will take place on Sunday 2nd and Monday 3rd. The show grounds will host Commercial Stalls Trade Show and small pets and fowl sales and provide parking facilitates on both days opening at 6am each morning. The very popular soapbox derby will take in the town centre on Thursday the 6th October. The Fair & Festival Committee have organised music and entertainment to coincide with the Fireworks display on Friday the 7th October.

This family event will start at 7.30pm in the car park adjacent to St. Michael’s Church and includes music on the festival soundstage, face painting and a few surprises and will conclude with the monster fireworks display @ 8.30pm. The finals of the Tarmac Tug of War will also take place on Friday night after the fireworks.

On Saturday 8th October, Country fair day, the last day of horse Sales will take place on the Fair green. The show grounds will host Commercial stalls Trade Show and small pets and fowl sales and provide parking facilitates.. The very popular The Fair & Festival will host the Mare and foal classes on the green. Local musicians will entertain the crowds on the festival soundstage. The festival Dog show as well as the popular food and craft market will also take place in St Michaels Square on Sunday 9th October. Ballinasloe Vintage Club will also be hosted a static display on Dunlo Street and Main Street.
